Curious about what was revealed at the Computex 2011 show? The team over at Netbook News collected the best stuff they saw at the show and put it into a single video. Worth a look!
No matter where you fall on the Apple/Windows side of the fence, you have to admit this is utterly hilarious - I love the way it plays to the fanboy stereotypes. ;-)
"Does the world really need 3D mobile devices? No, but companies are going to keep putting them out. That's why the LG Optimus Pad, announced at MWC 2011, garnered so much attention today."
3D video recording on a tablet/phone may just be the ultimate in "Why? Because I can". Personally I cannot think of a single situation were recording video in the old school red/green 3D would provide any real benefit. Would I do it if I could? Probably. Would I go out of my way to buy a device capable of it? Probably not. The capability of recording true 3D video on a mobile device is very cool for sure but it may be just a bit too gimmicky to really sell a device. What about you? Any of you guys who can't wait to get some 3D on your next mobile device? Click through for a video of the device in action.

If you're a power user who has ever done overclocking, you've no doubt spent hours in your system BIOS tweaking settings and reminiscing on the early '90s when we were still using DOS. The computer BIOS hasn't significantly changed in well over a decade - some might say two decades - but, finally, the old BIOS as you knew it is dead. Long live UEFI!
"We promised a hands on demo video of the BlackBerry PlayBook, and that's what you're going to get from us - almost 10 minutes of 1080p joy. As we said previously, we were pretty impressed seeing the PlayBook demo'd in person right in front of us, and well, we could go on for days."
The Playbook is looking like a real-deal competitor to the iPad - but only in terms of hardware. The harder piece is the ecosystem of developers making apps, and entertainment companies providing content. That's not an easy problem to solve...

Keeping in mind of course that this is a video from RIM, it's still hard to dismiss the differences shown in the video - the Playbook appears to handily beat the iPad in terms of browser performance. But performance isn't everything; it needs to be balanced off against battery life. The iPad has a single core Cortex A8 processor at 1 Ghz; the RIM Playbook has two cores, possibly based on the Cortex A9 processor. So while it performance faster, it might also chew through battery life faster - until the final specs are known, and independent battery tests can be performed, it's too early to make a call. Still, things are looking good for the RIM Playbook!
"We unboxed the Eee PC 1215T, the first AMD-Powered 12-inch nebook from ASUS and the first to feature the AMD Athlon II Neo K125 1.70GHz processor and ATI Radeon HD 4250 graphic card. This LED-backlit netbook has HDMI-out, is good for up to 6 hours of battery life and weighs just 3.21 lbs."
It's a bit odd to see big companies doing their own unboxings - it's not like we're going to see an unbiased opinion - but if you've got your eye on the new Asus 1215T (I seriously can't keep track of their model numbers), you'll want to watch this video.
What's that? You want an unboxing in a lyrical language that you can't understand about a gadget that you really want? BOOM. Here you go. It's an unboxing of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and it's in Italian. My Italian is about as good as my Atlantean (as in, non-existent), but boy, that's one nice looking Android tablet!

This is an unboxing and first impressions video of the HP tm2 laptop [affiliate] - also known as a tablet PC because of the touch screen, though it's worth pointing out that HP doesn't use that term anymore. The exact model I'm reviewing is the 1070ca, on loan to me for a few weeks from HP Canada. The exact model and configuration will change depending on where you are in the world, but the basics are the same. Read more...
